The Faculty Committee on Promotions advises the Chair on the merits of an applicant’s case for academic promotion. The Committee requires that an applicant follow the c.v. format and guidelines found in the Faculty of Medicine document available at
http://www.facmed.utoronto.ca/staff/policys.htm (download the Academic Promotions Manual).
Promotions to Lecturer and Assistant Professor are evaluated only at the Departmental level, with final approval of the Dean of Medicine required for promotions that the Chair recommends. Promotions to Associate and Full Professor are first vetted at the Department level and, if the Committee, and Chair, feel promotion is justified, then sent to the Decanal Promotions Committee for a second, and more rigorous, evaluation. Associate and Full Professor qualifications are described in the Manual. All candidates for promotion must provide, in addition to the c.v. and dossiers described in the Manual, a covering letter that lists the reasons the applicant feels promotion is justified, with the supporting documents providing the hard data.
Full and Associate Professor applications should be received by the Committee Chair by 15 July. Assistant Professor and Lecturer applications should be received by September 1st.
